One does not simply finish a home gym…
I stumbled upon this meme just after completing the purchase of some new equipment for the gym - despite having said that I had anything I could possibly need…
I have been wanting to try out a safety squat bar for years, and I finally got myself one. There was no point in continuing to have my advanced students stick to goblet squats - their legs are already far, far stronger than what their arms are ever going to be able to hold - so I decided to pull the plug and invest in a SSB. The chief advantage is the more accessible arm positioning and the ample padding compared to a regular barbell - but I am also quite liking the camber in the barbell, which loads the middle back in an interesting way. It also targets the quads in a similar way to a front squat, but while having a far more comfortable racked position. These may seem like trivial matters for hardcore lifters - but not at all if you train ‘gen pop’ clients, like I do.
I also purchased a hip thrust set, comprised of a bench with rails and a purpose-made barbell & pad.
This is another purchase that I postponed for a long time due to its price, thinking I could make do without. While you technically can - you can definitely do barbell hip thrusts on a regular bench and heisting up the bar to get into position - such a set-up is not adequate for a group class, in which you need people to spend minimal time and effort on getting into position for the lift.
