Dales Way completed

We are back from our holiday in the UK, during which we did our first walking trip - the Dales way. Here’s the post I wrote while sitting in a nice apartment in Bowness-on-Windermere, while sipping a cup of peppermint tea…

It’s a strange feeling - for the last few days our routine has been to wake up, walk and find spots to take a break and eat something while going to the next step of the journey, which we found to be rather freeing: the task was clear, the reward immediate, the end in sight - not something that happens very often in regular life.
I’ve heard this same phenomenon mentioned by many people doing thruhikes (and ‘diagnosed’ as post-trail depression), for whom the feeling must be many many times stronger than it is for us, considering the amount of time they spend focused on walking to the next step of the journey (months, as opposed to our mere 6 days).
The key, I guess, is to have life projects that you care about outside of just doing adventures - so that finishing an adventure means switching to another project rather than being left without something you love and that gives you purpose and motivation..
