Blogging VS social media
I’ve been enjoying putting my thoughts on my Instagram account, but since I created a website for my coaching business I’ve realized that blogging is a much better avenue for what I am doing.
Social media is a battleground for attention: you are forced to play by certain rules if you want to be favoured by the algorithm - use catchy visuals, trending music and controversial topics - and you are competing against people who have 10x the budget you have (if not more). It may be a worthy endeavour if your aim is to reach as many people as possible to sell your products - but that is not my goal; I may sell things through this website eventually, but my main goal is simply to reach fellow humans with the same strange combination of interests - physical training, martial arts, adventures in the outdoors / bushcraft, teaching, personal development - to provide some inspiration and encouragement for both others and myself, as I’ve found that regularly posting helped me to narrow down what I actually care about out of the myriad of possibilities and it also helps to keep me motivated. I aim to create the website I would have wanted to find when I was young and wondering where to go in life.
So it occurred to me that a blog is much more conducive to this goal: you can index your content so that people actively searching for what you are offering can reach you, rather than working by the algorithm’s rules in the hope of passively reaching them. I also enjoy writing, and do not enjoy as much spending a large amount of time shooting photos, editing videos and the like.
So follow me along this journey, as I share my musings on physical training, jiu jitsu, adventuring, owning a small business, a non-noxious approach to business, and more.
